Life in the Empire

Thought we might need a thread for news of civil disobedience, resistance and beyond.

My 12 yo son told me the other day that the baby boomers were responsible for the world going to shit. I told him he was right. There were a few of us who held to our youthful ideals, but truth is..the vast majority of the boomer generation turned out to be scumbags.

But what caught my attention was the fact that my twelve year old was echoing a new sentiment. Nope, he doesn't blame me--not yet anyway. But, it is interesting that he's already looking for someone to blame. His eyes are beginning to see through the bullshit. He gets it.

Here's to those that fight back...

Still Free... But Barely Holding On.

"We chant, “the world is watching,” but as we are beaten back from the neighborhoods in which we have lived for two hundred years by troops who may not even be Canadian, we see football on the TVs. Is anyone watching us?"
Going north to Canada no longer seems a viable alternative for USans trying to escape

Chris Hedges and Derrick Jensen on Totalitarianism and Resistance

"What is it going to take for concerned and engaged citizens to finally feel as though some crucial threshold has been crossed—that our nation’s political system and the global corporate culture it both serves and feeds into will never represent them or serve their needs? Continuing along that line, what’s to be done once that realization has hit home, as it has for authors Chris Hedges and Derrick Jensen? Both Hedges and Jensen offer their ideas in this July 5 interview with Mount Royal University professor Michael Truscello."

[Interesting to hear both of these guys advocating violence]

chilling

we're certainly working to get prepared, but trying to not feel desperate.
Dear friends, I have been absent due to the head-bending northwoods trip plus cyber exchanges with all those in a lather over the Los Zetas "invasion" hoax. The weather is delightful today. Just a quick note here before beginning the deedle-doo of day to day. It would be nice to make the journey for a handshake to Brother Curt on his sad journey taking the old folks home. I would probably just get in the way.

The Resistance

Sadly, it appears that a great many have now realized the days of "protests" and "demonstrations" are gone. What this portends, I don't know. "Demonstrations" have not yet been on a truly massive scale, nor does there seem to be anything in the wind to indicate a General Strike, which I believe is the last step possible before violent conflict. Polarization appears to be taking on a new dimension in the US, with each "side" (the perception of which, of course, is being carefully managed by the rich fatties) increasingly unable to make any sense whatsoever to the other.

The ignorance about "socialism" looks pandemic. My guess is the fats are going to call in their 100 years of intense brainwashing "investment." I want the musical kids that hang around the house to learn "The Internationale." sigh. Just a silly old man's dream. But they might be able to pull it off (this time). "...for the Last Fight we must face..." Kinda brings tears to yer eyes, don't it? Well, mine anyway... and buggeroff... I'm an old man and I cry easily. Mushy old fuck. Daughter brought a new kitten home. Black and white, he matches Sid. "Pechus," they call him.

Oh there WILL be resistance. The nature of it looks like it's shaping up to be something beyond my understanding... and that's GOOD. All forms of resistance I have ever known have taken a dark and painful turn. What could be more natural for the children of hippiedom and slackerdom? "Electric Car" is WAY more appealing to them than "Internationale."

So maybe our Red Storm Rising will look more like Sponge Bob Squarepants. C'est la vie.

houskeeping note: Ning is bugging my ass to pay up or go dark. I got it covered for the first year anyway- so don't worry about it. After that, it's up to you.
Bro, it ain't sposed to be a sad journey and we (my sis, and my oldest brother) won't be in sad moods. We'Re goin' home together for the first time since 1971. Each of us has been there since, but never together like this. We're tickled pink about it and you wouldn't be in the way, no way. Methinks we could spend an ample amount of time together there, more than we could've at the airport three years ago. For me, it's gonna be take it as it comes and I'm gonna do my best to keep it all open and free in the spirit of our parents and their hippie cousins (Mom & Dad were more Rock-a-Billies but cool ones). My son is gonna be a real magnet there and he doesn't even know it. He looks just like I did when I was that age so people will see me in him and see my Dad in me. Weird shit, I know. We should be in Ark City by Saturday the 29th of August. I believe we'll be there for 3 days or so, so anything's possible. Even the funeral should be interesting. It won't be a funeral. There will be no priest, chaplan or any other kind of bullshitter there, and there should be very few tears. Mom & Dad didn't like shit like that and I know they wanna see some smiles, friends and family gathered to celebrate life, living and loving. You're all welcome to come and join in. I'll try to get some weed for us. Just joking.

A scene we will probably never see in the USA.

Gotta love the Irish.

Jolly good, what!
Poor baby. Blair had to cancel his book signing tour.

Meanwhile, over here in da USA, we hear nothing of Bush and Cheny. Our war criminals keep a low profile.

But wait, there's more...

A movie about the 'outing' of Valerie Plame is coming out in November. Jolly good show.
