I asked for the story - "how do you make the people in your pictures laugh like that?" - answer "I say something like 'You're really incredibly ugly' and people spontaneously burst out laughing" .... it made me laugh so apparently it works.

50'something blues .... well this year it's 59 & then I'm out of that little patch & into the next one.  I would still be wondering if I'd ever earn a cent again if my sister hadn't come to rescue me.  Now she & her husband make the money & I run the errands, do the shoppping ... whatever adds value.  Something very mutually supportive about the whole family thing which we seldom see at work in our insular age.  I mean, I had to be dragged here kicking & screaming ????

Requiem for The Smirking Chimp?

migawd... what kind of antique code is that?  looks like the server crashed and somebody couldn't fix it.  not my thing tho... closest i came to coding was setting up real-time databases and then i was using a compiler whateverthefuk that is.

54 is when korporat cut my ass loose as well.  did a lateral arabesque (P is you impressed?) into academia where korporat arrived about 10 years later.  learned how to say "pack your team up yer ass" without wanting to kill anybody.  Read that Cuban first-year college teachers are leaving in droves.

That's because they don't pay them shit.  Like borderline starvation wages.  Similar to here.  So I figger... i can go hang out in Spain... pick up some Castillian Spanish... and get a 9-month-a-year gig in Cuba where it's cheap... and my minimum-wage bennies from both sides will keep me skin from falling off.

That's the plan today anyway.

Fortunately for Jo and I, she is being valued and came in with tenure.  But the work is really, really intense.  She never wanted to be an administrator.  She has to pull 8 years to get a pension, doesn't know if she can do it.

There's a Humanities prof gig at a community college two hours from Tallahassee I'm going to apply for.  The pay is crap but it would get me closer to home and still give me a forum to try to make chinks in the studes' indoctrination.  No dance - but I've got a broad enough background I could fake it.

Nutritional Anarchy:  might explain why all our shit is made in China.

Having a juice bar downstairs is turning me into a fucking Buddha.

I need to eat some raw vegetables soon.  Just ate about a month's worth of fried food in Toronto over the past four days.

You lookin at a gig in Toronto?  Good first destination out of the United Snakes.

The science behind cold-pressed raw juice is complicated and way over my head.  It's an art form too.  And a little dash of new-age woo-woo.  There's a yoga studio in back of Beet.  You can explore the juice alchemy HERE.

Would love a gig in Toronto but it was just a presentation of a paper at a conference - back in Kansas now.

Start every morning with a smoothie.  Half a banana, half a lime, half an apple, some kefir, some frozen fruit, a little oat bran, some flax seed....if the salad greens are wilted I throw them in too.  Throw it in the blender - I got a Bullet for personal use in Kansas - and drink it for breakfast.

Don't know how one can even afford to drink juice. A glass of orange juice cost me $7 today...almost as much as the rest of the breakfast I ordered. Maybe the pharma industry is buying up orchards.

Good thing you don't live over a Popeye's.

Just looking at the Pop's menu made me want to go boil on the toilet for an hour.  Juice is expensive because real food is not subsidized.  People eat what tastes good.  I buy my cigs at a gas station 2 blocks away that sells gas and bagged junk food 24-7.  Haji family runs it and you know the rest.  Pops is on the SE side- which is the SW side of the ghet.

Juice is 4x more expensive than beer.  Gas was 1.49 yesterday at Haji's.  And 911 was an inside job. Calhoun St. runs NS, it's the EW line.  Main St. runs EW and ends at Clay.  If you East of Clinton and South of the river, you pretty much in the ghet.

Where I went to High School (South Side) is now in the south west side of the ghet.  Black went south and white went north this time.  Ghetsters get their at Hajis in the middle of the night.  We speak different languages now, but the exchanges are cordial and friendly.

But have been a west-ender home boy most of me life.  Before here it was 27 years in white country before Pineapple Junction finally came to me.  So I be at the core of the pineapple junction now- birthplace of the Beet Generation.

Been resisting writing something here today that wasn't laden with my typical doom and gloom, snarky view of things. But my gawd, tell me where to look for some good news. No one can...because everything is breaking at the same time. I don't know of any safe place, or really, any place that's much better than anywhere else. Albeit I am happy I still have clean water.

I think what depresses me most about these times is that none of the crooks that have destroyed this country, have been punished. OK, so the rule of law is dead. But, why is it that none of these pieces of shit have eaten a bullet yet? Surely, we're way past due for some vigilanty style justice. It's certainly not for a lack of arms.

So, there you go. Proof that I simply can't help myself.
