(how is this for a new thread?)
It is not the freshest news. But it is still breaking, people are still absorbing it ,and it all till needs context.
The filthy greedheads and the doomed can't have exclusive rights to this news territory. The insane and the loyal opposition must have their say as well.
My take - the Russian armada is going to bomb the living fuck out of Aleppo. Not so much to help Assad as to show they can still break shit, and still matter in one of their few areas of influence outside of Russia.

I've stopped writing. Not because I don't want to do it anymore... just can't. Never cared about an "audience." It's because age erodes your ability, stamina, etc. It's because what's going on right now should be obvious to all but the most stupid... because of "ideology."
Most "communists" in the USSR were fully aware they were "communists." Most of us (USAns) are not aware that we are "capitalists," nor are we even aware what "capitalistism" actually means. Reading anything through this ideological-economic filter is nigh impossible.
I imagine the same was true in the Soviet era as well as under fascist eras - the willful denial of the complicit followers. I've always seen you writing as a gift you shared with us. I won't beg you to continue. That would just be selfish.
Heh. I dunno what happened. It's like the fire went out. Or something. The opera continues in my head... just don't have the ability to keep up with it.
We are trying to keep pushing through but we are tired. Decided not to write a proposal for a conference in Lithuania with a group we really like. Trying to force ourselves to feel creative sparks here in Tallahassee.
I'm still doing the kid's musicals with the autistic kids - it isn't anything close to meaningful art but the process of working with the kids is good. We have been hitting the end of the season sales at the Garden Nursery - still planting even though our plan is to not stay here - still haven't figured out where to relocate in an attempt to avoid the worst of the Climate Change effects. Projections show that Tallahassee won't be underwater so that should ensure we don't lose money on the house.
We haven't gone camping in four years. It is an eight hour drive to the Smoky Mountains....too far for a long weekend. And it too damn hot and muggy around here to want to go local.
Wildfires in the west have made living here rather hellish during summertime with unbreathable air for weeks at a time. Access to drinkable water is becoming a major issue for parts of the country as well. Almost impossible to find a place that isn't experiencing the effects of global warming/environmental degradation. Thinking about relocating to one of those islands of plastic garbage growing in our oceans. And they say that they're not making any more new real estate?
THIS just came in from the How-Fucking-Obvious-Does-It-Have-To-Get Dept.

Check it out: Billy Connolly with a Ph.D !
“What emotion do you expect me to feel for people who are trying to destroy my country and impose their sick, dystopian will on me and my family? Do you expect me to sit here ‘sure we disagree, but we’re all fellow Americans?’ Well that’s not how I feel. The people trying to destroy the country I love and impose 1984 meets Brave New World meets the will of Satan on my family are my enemies. I could pretend to be a white knight and say that I don’t hate them but that would be a lie. I hate them.”
That's how they feel about the "Reality Based Community." Like you didn't know that already.
Does anybody see a connection between how public participation in technological development was handled 70 years ago and the handling of trans-dimensional beings now?

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
