Life in the Empire

After WP's visit early this summer (so long ago!)  my interest in human powered (with some help) vehicles was rekindled.

With the extraordinary heat, the problems of growing food in a changing or erratic climate was made clear.

So, I thought maybe we needed a discussion centered on tools and such.  Thoughts?

I would love the recipe.  We are all silly rabbits.  And Gettysburg was Watership Down.

It's been well over 150 years, and it hasn't even started. It isn't even past. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. Russiagate is unraveling like the slapstick comedy it was from the beginning. And now, bigger darker lies are beginning to unravel too. Like the wars on communism/ drugs/ crime/ terror/ aliens. Like capitalism. There's a pattern here.
Like the Red Balloon in Pleasantville... when people started to see things differently. Mercers moved billions. Made some noise. Connection to Afghanistan/ opium? Maybe. How about 911?

had meant to mention, Hannah, that I gave up the Pardo clay because of arthritic annoyance of the hands and am entirely won over by Cernit, particularly their 500 gram block of translucent.  It is therapeutic in ease of pleasing me with the surprises of the baking and sanding after winding the colours together in various ways, and so easy to blend that my fingers can cope.

Well... goll-lee.  Somebody else noticed it too.  "Shell-shocked liberals did their best to pretend they hadn’t been duped, again, by authoritative sources like The Washington PostThe New York TimesThe Guardian, CNN, MSNBC, et al., which had disseminated completely fabricated stories about secret meetings which never took placepower grid hackings that never happenedRussian servers that never existedimaginary Russian propaganda peddlers, and the list goes on, and on, and on … and hadn’t otherwise behaved like a bunch of mindless, shrieking neo-McCarthyites."

have just sent some frankincense essential oil to my darling Russian for her pain , which is much, to put drops into organic olive oil and rub into the skin

i accidentally bought a four inch skillet on ebay, thinking it was larger. Tempted by its cast iron enamelled beauty, I have found it ever so useful and perfect for one.  My favourite experiment so far started with a generous chunk of butter and a small red onion sliced into rings.  When that iwas coming along nicely, I cut a free range rasher of streaky bacon into five pieces and tossed them in.  A few minutes later, when all was pleasantly bubbling and browning I added a beaten egg and topped it off with grated Red Leicester cheese, Turned off the hob and finished it under the grill.

I ate it standing at the dresser, straight from the skillet on the bare wood, only a knife and fork between us.

Worried I might be in for a bit of government speech policing as well. Mailed off a ballot yesterday with a go fuck yourselves message on it yesterday. In Washington state, Amerika, they now make you declare party loyalty on your voting ballot -- which amounts to in-your-face election rigging as they force you into becoming a party apparatchik and accepting whomever they deem suitable to be your candidate. Wrote that it was unconstitutional and told 'em to fuck off. Wouldn't surprise me at all if I receive some admonishment for my behavior. Who knows, maybe I'll end up in the local gulag.

Always love your posts, Mouse.

I too greatly appreciate Mouse posts.

My last symbolic voting gesture (if you don't count voting for Greens rather than Obama) was writing in Homer J. Simpson during Feinstein's first Senate bid. As to the government responding to your vote BO - they don't really pay that much attention to the results of elections as it is (not voting is part of the plan for maintaining the status quo), I rather doubt your vote got any more notice than the decision to throw it in the trash - and....I would rather be in Washington state than Florida as the outright contempt for the electorate's will is blatant here.

I was pissed because no doubt it will be my only opportunity to cast a vote for Tulsi.
After doing some research, I found that I'm hardley alone in my anger as more and more people don't want to have anything to do with either party.

The bill, which essentially locks out independent voters who refuse to compromise their principles, was democrat sponsored. Republicans tried to stop it. And even our Secretary of State, who's charged with managing WA elections is boycotting the primaries on constitutional grounds. How fucked up is that?

I hate the dems in this state with a passion.

Meanwhile in South Carolina the Republicans are pissed at their Dems because they have open primaries there....

The both want a sports match, not an election. Don't know why. Most Americans are going to continue to vote for a mainstream candidate and they always get what they want anyway.

Gotta leave my beloved SLC.  Probably never to return.  In spite of the clusterfuck downtown, there are hippies and permes here.  Like this old guy- a master permie.

Spent the past 4 years woodshedding.  Like all musicians have to do.  But real musicians have day gigs.  And I am retired. Anyway Cully Gage changed my life years ago.  I wanted to become a real writer.  Not a high-paid technician who plays cover-tunes in Vegas (nice work$ if you can get it).  Pan gave me a chance to practice my fine art chops with Train.  And later with DBS.  Which involved the Journey. Which is another story.

We are all Nazis now.  Because we live in Nazi Germany... death camps, taking over countries... the whole nine yards.  We have gone from our normal everyday compartmentalization... to dissociation.  Is it "dissociate disorder?  You decide.  Methinks it might begin with Jonanism.  But i dunno.  I aint a fucking shrink (altho have seen plenty).  What would JEW do... if you were living in Nazi Germany?  And go where?  I dunno...  (etc.)

And go where?....ah there's the rub. Jo & I have been trying to figure that out for at least a decade.  Ex-pat? To which country? What region? Where is climate change and politics and health care going to be the least horrible?
