Life in the Empire

Thought we might need a thread for news of civil disobedience, resistance and beyond.

My 12 yo son told me the other day that the baby boomers were responsible for the world going to shit. I told him he was right. There were a few of us who held to our youthful ideals, but truth is..the vast majority of the boomer generation turned out to be scumbags.

But what caught my attention was the fact that my twelve year old was echoing a new sentiment. Nope, he doesn't blame me--not yet anyway. But, it is interesting that he's already looking for someone to blame. His eyes are beginning to see through the bullshit. He gets it.

Here's to those that fight back...

“The greens, gays, entitlement buffs and pseudo-socialists need to realize that liberty serves ALL.”

hey- I resemble that remark! Now, since yer lumpin’ us ‘greens’ into the same bucket with all that other… not that I mind sharing the bucket, mind you, I’m still not sure what “entitlement buffs” means.

Let’s see what YOU say, Kamrade Korn, when (and if) you go to collect “Social Security” (which I imagine you… like me… have “paid” for your entire working life)… and “they” say, “so solly.”

I dunno bout YOU… but I’m gonna say, “NO… ‘so solly’ on YOU… cos a deal’s a deal… I’m ENTITLED to it… and I’m TAKING it… ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.” But hey- that’s just me.

“No resistance is not futile…voting is.” Exactly. “For Entertainment purposes ONLY.”

“They mean business!!!! Let’s get a consensus on this first then address the candidates.” Exactly. They ain’t playin around… and neither should we. “Violence?” Oh that’s soooo “1930.” We got better ways of baking a cake now… altho that COULD be part of the icing… garden forks and all.

Yeah, a Paul-Ventura “ticket” is a fun bit o’ entertainment. Who knows? In 2012 the “pubes” might actually be desperate enough to try it… but ONLY after each “candidate” has heard (if they haven’t already) and signed off on the “Mr. Beale” speech.

“Yea…if I were 20 years old again…” Precisely. Other than a last desperate farewell gesture… this option is useless. Your popgun vs. plasma and thermobaric weapons? Stick to the garden fork. It roots out poop-grown spuds real good.

All said, a fun thread… IF we had a “republic,” or IF we had a “country.”

Me? I could fantasize all the livelong day about a Kucinich-Brown “ticket” or even a Paul-Kucinich “ticket” (which has actually been discussed) but I find “teenage girls” more visually stimulating… and don’t engage in that one much either because of the “thermobaric weapons vs. popgun” paradigm.

Definitely no “country” for old men.
Hey Waldo, where does the quote at the top of your post come from?
This is the Teabagging that John Waters considers Pornographic.

Now they have created this Teabag movement to usurp the natural revolution, which would have occurred in any case, because people are being hammered into the ground. It’s true that the poorest American probably eats better than half of the rest of the world but they’re used to it and a lot of the newly bankrupt are not. Glenn Beck; waterworks, hypocrite extraordinaire likes to use the word ‘serfs’. He has a canny sense of Reader’s Digest, Cliff Notes history. He’s just a regular guy with parent permission slips to miss the formerly mandatory, physical education needs of growing youth. That need is now being met by boys and girls being purchased in American malls, by men in suits, for items and objects that their peer review judges have declared to be mandatory possessions. Hey, if you’re going to give it away you might as well get paid for it and there are lots of Daddy’s willing to pay.
I understand the guy's sentiment, but, he's a terrible writer. A good portion of what he says is so cryptic, or poorly phrased, I have no idea what he's talking about.

Interesting that the left continues to blame the right for usurping the revolution. I didn't know the right was managing the revolution. Oh yeah, it's the right's job to fight the revolution while the left comments about it. I forgot.
The easiest way to co-opt a dangerous movement is to market it. Hence the arrival of jeans boutiques in the 60s/70s and MC Hammer doing his darkie dancing for Kentucky Fried Chicken while Ice Cube (the black Muslim) was pimpin' for St. Ides malt liquor in the late 80s. Punk was morphed into New Wave and the Clash rocked the Casbah.

The revolution will be televised and brought to you by these proud sponsors....

The Left voted for Kucinich in their primaries but went for Obama in the election rather than "throw away their vote". And though we could see right through the hypocrisy of Uncle Thomas Clarence claiming an electronic lynching while decrying affirmative action, we all were moved by the sight of Jesse Jackson weeping during Obama's victory speech even though we knew he was just a mocha colored continuation of the same old shit.
Our brief cultural movements are the result of American morals and its people's limited attention span (infantilism, as Chris Hedges calls it). And that's the reason we won't have a revolution based on anything but our own self-interests. That our morals and ideology are so easily co-opted says volumes about the superficial nature of American culture. If you can even call this thing a culture. Everything we represent is based on some form of exploitation.
Retro McDonald's buildings provide a contemporary kitsch nostalgia.

When I lived in L.A. I was a bit bemused by the efforts to conserve the historical buildings - drive-in restaurants. Save Johnie's Broiler! And Bob's Big Boy!
The Europeans have their medieval architecture. All us Americans can conjure up, are relics from post WWII automobile culture. We can be proud to have introduced the world to the concept of the strip mall. We don't need no stinking twelfth century cathedrals. We have our WalMarts and retro fast food joints!

Welcome to Deadwood!
I don't know if this "counts" as "resistance" or not... but I'm definitely gonna make the scene at the "Rally to Restore Sanity" in DC... and also gonna check out the deal in Yplilanti because I'm definitely interested in a clearer picture of the "breakdown of capitalism" (whatever we think that is... and the "fight for socialism" (whatever that is).

A dear colleague tonight said... "...this is inevitable... we must endure it..." and most chilling of all "...perhaps we'll survive to be witnesses." We have both been discussing the Chomski interview that Ms. Waldo turned me onto, saying: "...he said the same things you've been saying for years... except he didn't sound like a raving bat-fuck lunatic." Well... true dat.

While it seems all the rage now for each "side" to tar the other as "Nazis," I daresay few of the tarbrush slappers have spent the time to examine the memeplex/ memosphere that caused the paradigm shift into the "Nazi Time." Sorry... but the Truth is, when it comes to sweeping-simplistic "answers" combined with brutal violent "solutions," the bullet-heads fit the pattern MUCH more precisely. The memeplex: "Versailles was a crime" (yes, in retrospect) "the Jews were behind it" (not exactly) and "we" are "entitled" to Lebensraum because it is our destiny as a race (total and complete bullshit)... well slap-my-ass-and-call-me-Sally for seeing the similarity to: "911 was a crime," the "Muslims are behind it" and "our destiny is to spread freedum and demokrasy (and secure the oilfields)-- hell-LO??

Couple that with, "we are justified in using violence- any means necessary- to stop the "Bolsheviks" (commies-pinkos-naggers-slackers-messikans-other-whatever) from 'taking over'"... well scuse-me-all-to-fuck if I see some kind of PATTERN here. Combine that with the "military" (Prussian) economy since 1942 as well as Military Fetishism... well... connect the fucking dots. Not that I'm totally against getting froggy,,, the difference is between suppression of dissent... and suppression of suppression.

I STILL believe the best... maybe the only possible... tool is satire, ridicule, laughter and marginalization as our last best hope before torches and forks... even though I'm just as tired of these fat-ass sausage-necked froggy-ass bully-fucks as YOU are. I don't WANT to be a fucking "witness." I ann't gonna live that long.

What about YOU?
Tried to find a cheap room in DC so I could attend the rally as well. But alas, DC is a town designed for rich lawyers, not the paupers they govern, so I gave up on the idea. Now, of course, I kinda wish I was going--at any cost--for the opportunity to meet and hug the great Waldopaper. Who sez:

"I STILL believe the best... maybe the only possible... tool is satire, ridicule, laughter and marginalization as our last best hope before torches and forks..."

I totally agree with you. But I wonder if you get the same reaction from Mrs. Waldo that I get from Mrs. BO: "Oh, you sound so judgmental." Well, yeah...so what? "All you see is the worst in people." Well, no...not exactly. I'm usually disappointed in people because I expect the best from them. "Most of my family members are christians and THEY are good people." If you say so....

Shit, I can't even tell the truth at home anymore. I have no right to go anywhere. Does Chomsky have to take this kinda shit from HIS wife?

Take pictures Waldo. We're going to need to see a full, illustrated report after the event.
Ms. Medusa still has positive view of Obama but she doesn't suffer fools gladly - she definitely doesn't think the religious types are well-intentioned.
