Life in the Empire

Yesterday I noticed in one of his comments on COTO that Waldo is reading, Family of Secrets. I got that book from the library the other day and just started reading it myself.

Come across any good books lately?

I want to read Eva Golinger's recent book, The Empire's Web: Encyclopedia of Interventionism and Subversion, but it was published in Venezuela in Spanish and I don't know if it is out in English yet.

Hands: Physical Labor, Class, and Cultural Work. By Janet Zandy.

First impressions after about 50 pages - the topic is wonderful and necessary (the maiming of laborers through industrial "accidents:"), I appreciate the collage structure, but I wish that Zandy was a better wordsmith.  (Alas.....not everyone can be our Waldo or our Mouse)  I think she has written a few too many articles for academic journals and that pedantic style is hard to completely shed.   Still......worth the read.

Blackout by Connie Willis:  thought it would be a good "beach book."  It was.

Just got back from da Yoop and at least a week of total media "blackout," and whaddya know- London in flames.  Kinda ironic.  "For sale" signs all over... with a few Ron Paul weeds.  It was Perot country back in the day.

North Star Brick Oven Bakery has enough grub for me... if i still have the bread to get the bred.

We are headed toward barbarism

Now bitchelle buttfokk is the leading "candidate" and we can all put on our magic underwear and watch the world melt

The Men Who Stare At Goats - Jon Ronson ....
