Comment by waldopaper on July 16, 2011 at 8:22pm: It's finally taking shape in the back yard. been doodling on inexpensive semi-permanent portable shelter for years... including a several-year obsession with the hexayurt. Also considered pyramids and all kinds of weird shapes, skins and frames. All involved some kind of fabrication and (sigh) tools and the ability to use them.

Knew when the right design was found, it would start taking shape in the yard. Finally decided on a wigwam.

The frame is 3/4" pvc charlotte pipe (heh). Each pole is 10', and there are 12 in the ground now (4 to go)... they cost less than $2 a pipe. So I need about 12 more... halfway to the frame.

For the cover, thinking-- 1. inner cover- 12 oz. drop cloth. 2nd layer... thinsulate. Final outer cover... 15 oz. canvas tarp. Furnish the inside with some cots. ta da. I figger the frame geometry can be duplicated at da u.p. with real lodge-pole pines... there are skillions of em.

the real engineering and construction would be the rocket stove... and i is findin out that stove pipe is spendy. try the prototype with fire-pit for about a year.

Comment by waldopaper on July 18, 2011 at 12:29pm: eye nose how to post pix... just not how to gettum from cam to computer. aint shot many pix since everything went digital... otherwise i woulda posted some pix of the huge dragon puppet at the energy fair... and daughter and me in dc for the jon stewart thing. gotta email em or some kinda shit. and i aint wanked with photoshop for years. using a "phone" to shoot just aint right. but it's the only digi-cam i got.

bein on socal scrutiny is turnin me into a ol skinflint. i needa bout 12 more poles... at about 1.80 per. then the first cover prolly bout 60 bocks. by the time its cold i oughta have the couple hunnert or so to put the winter skins on. ever try to start a fire with flint and steel? hadn't done it since boyhood... bout passed out blowin on the tinder... so prolly cant play the horn no more either. gotta pay the wood-man after payin for car maintain.

so that means BO gotta bring the buttons...
