If we were childless, I could see us moving up to Vancouver Island, in Canada. Canada still has a middle class, and its British heritage makes it much more civilized than any place in the US. Problem with moving to a rural environment in the US is; the further out you get, the more redneck/conservative/religious/violent it is.

My basic theory is that we have witnessed 'Peak Humanity' during our lifetime and we are some number of decades beyond it. We're on a downhill slope relative to quality of life everywhere on the planet and there's really no place one can go to escape it. But given a choice of cultures to experience during my remaining days, the US is not very high on my list. I realize there are no utopias, but I'd rather be poor in a civilized society, than rich in an uncivilized one.

One of the things we kept saying while in Latvia is that it just seems so civilized.  For example - every restaurant had plenty of coat hooks/hangers so you could hang your overcoat near your table rather than drape it over chair - a small thing to be sure but ever so much nicer.

oh yeah, the brits are so civilized.....

Remind me about rugby and football (soccer) clubs' sense of decorum.....

More civilized than US.

I'd think Canada would want to put up giant wall to keep us out.

Civilized.  Yeah.

I go to the big-box everyday because it's so close.  And marvel at how weird this would look to the Germans.  First off... Americans have to use carts big enough to hold enough shit to load into their box-cars.  Then, they leave their carts where they are and just drive away.  Americans won't push them ten feet into a cart storage area.  For a blind old man, this can be a serious hazard at night time.  Like my pre-midnight Saturday night beer run (because you can't buy beer on Sunday in Kristian Krakkerland).

They call 'em big box stores because all people are really buying is the advertising on the outside. The shit inside has gotten so cheap, the box is the best part.

Been designing a grey water waste system out of 5 gallon buckets and discovered some pretty amazing things people are doing with them. Love the whole repurposing movement.

Been reading labels for years.  What takes most people 15 minutes take me 2 hours.  Started as avoiding sodium.  It's really easy to get a thousand % rda if you just eat shit that's big and cheap.

Repurposing  is way cool.

Here it is: all the fuck I got to show for the month of May, 20015 CE.
