Life in the Empire

Or should I say, evil has become ubiquitous thread.

Some say it's during times like these that we will witness the true character of men.

Well, here's a little snippet from today's news that shows that sometimes when the going gets tough, and the tough are getting going, some of the morally and financially bankrupt assholes that helped jump start the depression think they deserve a Mediterranean cruise. On taxpayer's money no less. Twas then I realized we're going to be seeing a lot more of this. The darker side of human nature...

For insensitivity, Wachovia refuses to be outdone
"While waiting to see if the government will relieve it of bad loans, the bank prepares to send 75 employees on a Mediterranean cruise."

Stick that up your ass, Pelosi and Franks.

We live at 4500 ft.   We were trekking around the Big Horns at around 9,000 ft for 5 days before going to Yellowstone.  I also think that I'm in pretty good shape from hiking and biking. Thought we would have been acclimated by then but I found myself breathing hard with my eardrums pounding after the ascent from Uncle Tom's Trail

The next day we hiked a steep, steep trail up Jedediah Smith Wilderness into the Tetons that kicked both of our butts.  Earned my beer that day!

Being creatures that live at sea-level, all of us experienced nose bleeds and extreme dehydration. Felt like my heart was going to explode a couple of times while hiking just a short way. Riding our bikes wasn't even an option. But, we sure felt a lot better once we reached Jackson, WY at 6500 ft.

Talked to some young park workers who said it takes months to acclimate to the altitude in Yellowstone--depending on where one is from. That said, from here on out, I think all my future vacations are going to be at sea-level. We gotta Caribbean cruise planned for christmas and I plan to spend as much time as possible below sea-level, communing with the fishes. The rest of time, I'll be eating fish tacos.

We definitely didn't feel like we were drinking enough water - even though we were going through it very quickly.

I said something rude about a toad last year and have been feeling bad about it.  There was a toad that used to sit beside our front door in Ireland, and it seemed to me to be a kind and thoughtful thing to do.

The only snake I ever met used to emerge onstage from the skirts of Herodius who was standing on her head after descending the stairs, the way you do.

Found this to be interesting, revisionist history of the American Revolution told from the view of the British Loyalists and their plight.

Wonder if anyone will end up banned?   Over at the Chimp they have a 9/11 Truth discussion going and not everyone is lining up and saluting the official story.
Ahhh, the bannings will begin. One may not disagree with either the government's story on 911, or anything Israel does.
The morality that shapes the actions of people is not rooted in the people themselves, but in the structures that surround them. If they change, everything is basically possible -- even absolute evil.

Translated from the German by Christopher Sultan

If that thought doesn't scare you... nothing will.  The new Murrikan Nazi dogs (no offense to dogs) are on a kite-string now... that they still think is a chain called "rule of law."  All they have to do is lunge... and they will be on our throats.

Lord of the Flies, Part II. Back to the island.

There's a bad vibe brewing out there. The peeps are angry and aggressive and ready to go barbaric. But so far, their rage seems unfocused, so violence has been random and indiscriminate. My guess is when the shit finally does go down, the lines will be drawn along racial lines and it'll become one giant gang war. Politics are just too abstract to fight over. If you're gonna kill someone with glee, your victim's gotta look and act foreign. It's the tribal way.

And the anti-intellectuals are playing Charles Manson while sipping tea....

... and reading their bibles

What conspiracy?
