Octuplets: What the hell is WRONG with "them?"

Had to rant at a site all a-blather about octo-babies, sick of hearing "teachers" natter about:

It’s the buzz in the lounge. It’s the prattle around the water cooler, the conversation near the coffee pot: the poor obsessive-compulsive woman who had eight babies… to add to her present six children. What she did not have was a “job” and a “husband.” Sandwiched between the tsk-tsks and the cluck-clucks is grousing about how “I made my… Continue

Willingen ski jumping

Of all things to do with a perfectly free Saturday. I'm headed for Willingen in Hessen to witness the team jumping. Well, don't look at me like that, it wasn't my idea! Jeez! I had this wild idea about taking my US flag with me and flying it upside down for… Continue

Death by Stupidity

“And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee…”

Matthew 5:30

Billions (yes, with a “B”) of us are going to die within the next decade from war, famine, and pestilence. How do you like them apples? Millions of people all over the world know this, and some of them are actually in a position to alleviate some of the suffering, perhaps even to help us all avoid the great die-off all together. But they… Continue

Our Make-Believe is Murder

Re-localization and De-militarization

Stage I: “9-11” was an inside job. Most people jump off the clue train right there. Now comes stage II of the krackpot konspiracy theory... the levers (ie, "write yer kongressperp, "voting," etc.) are no longer connected to anything. "Government" is a staged illusion. The "system" is not 'broken," it's GONE. We’re… Continue

Is Ron Paul "one of us?"

Ron Paul probably does not realize he is a Socialist… and that is a good thing. Those who have little understanding of Socialism or Marxian Theory will begin flinging words like “statist” or “collectivist” as a child would fling the epithets of… Continue

Speaking our minds

Curt, you said this:

As for our speaking our minds....

we could (!) let it be. Aint no one listening any old how. Let us....consider ourselves .....

silent observers. Not any easy job. On the other hand, we save ourselves a load of problems trying to convince the unconvinceable. Short & sweet little hints should suffice. A lot like salting our puddings. I trust that if we can find that balance in the amount of info / warning we emit, we can make a dent. A big…

Get used to it: killing "liberals."

As usual, there is great temporary great buzz and twitter is about the nut-case in Tennessee who shot people because he “hated liberalism” Whacko reasoning is not always the best. He could have done it because a demon possessed his neighbor’s dog. However, there is something more common and universal in US… Continue

McCain: a God-fearing man

Throw an atheist off a cliff, and half-way down they’ll start talking to something. Pilots tend to be an especially superstitious lot, as are sailors, dealing with wind shear and vertigo miles above the earth or angry leviathan waves that break over the bows of Kennedy-Class aircraft carriers. Such forces tend to make even the most rational person, overtly or subconsciously, call on the help of unseen metaphysical forces.

Matt Tabbi’s… Continue

Foul language: fatheads, fools and fakes

Would you discuss “air” with and oyster?

US culture is truly suffering from foul language, that is, some language is stinking and loathsome to the senses… especially “common” sense. Perfectly good words like “freedom,” “democracy,” and most references to “God” and such have putrefied with repetition by fatheads, fools and fakes. The fatheads are those who cannot make change for half-a-brain. The fools believe what they want to… Continue

It’s the same dang thing, I tell ye!

Hick Hop, corn crop, Vox Pop; po-tay-toe, po-tah-toe and civil war ghosts.

On the surface, seems like there’s no connection between “we are the fascists our fathers fought against” and “Hick Hop,” a combination of Country & Western murder ballads and Gangsta Rap. But if ya put the James Burke/… Continue

There are grown-ups

…and there are writers.

So what about the distinction between “serious” readers and “influential” readers? Maybe cynical, but let’s just suppose that a “serious” reader is a critical thinker whose opinion is worth something more than money. Which leads to the other kind, the “influential,” rich famous whatever… got money.

“Serious” and “influential” need not be mutually exclusive, but how about letting the cat out of the… Continue

It ain't over yet.

Did it not seem real?

“…it may be given to us, after this life, to meet again in the old quarters…”

Sgt. Berry Benson

Their ghosts are close to the surface now. They could be nothing more than random stimulus being perceived as significant. They say the US is polarized now. The young rebels and yanks who were greybeards a hundred years ago, seen sitting on… Continue

Io: Christians and Patriots

Like all successful plagues, it will probably recede when it runs out of fuel. -wp

A word, please. I’ll try to be nice. You used to frighten me. Then you just flat-out bored me. Now I wish you’d just go away… and the truth is, you were never here to begin with. Many of us would probably find much in common with Christians or Patriots… and would get along with them just fine… IF WE EVER MET ONE. Living in Dominionist… Continue

Taking a Ponerology from Behind

Talking about "Socialism:"

The History Elephant is about to drop a corn-flecked steaming doody directly on the size-15 wingtips and steel-toed Payless cop-oxfords of all the ham-heads who bellow "liberal socialist agenda" like they used to bawl "witchcraft!"

And it’s about goddam TIME.

It’s about time for the US citizens who aren’t happily nested in the Middle Ages to leave… Continue

The $175 Burger

There's a really good metaphor/ analogy in the “$175 Burger,” considering the portion (nearly half) of the world's population that lives on the equivalent of $2 a day. Those $4 "cheap" burgers are 2 days' "wages."

Now... imagine a bunch of stock brokers, bankers and derivative fund floozies having a food fight with the $175 burgers... and there's the world view of the… Continue

zen is not the antidote to war

Zen is not the antidote, it just is.

Kim reminds us of some good points.

There’s a lot of Zen in the conversation with Susanka. Being totally in the moment, focused on one thing at a time, just being aware of the present reality is where I want to be. Deciding what you want to do with your life and then just doing it is the action that sounds so simple but… Continue
